Marine Corps has traditionally used to protect millions of dollars in combat-critical assets," said Jeff Vold, ENVELOP Director of Military Market sales. "And more importantly, the use of ENVELOP covers will free up Marines from hours of preventive maintenance, and put them back where they belong — on the mission, and training for the mission."

Deliveries have been completed to the Marine Detachment at the U.S. Army Field Artillery School, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, so all new Marine canoneers will soon reach the fleet familiar with the benefits of the covers and how to use and maintain them. Deliveries are ongoing at the 10th and 11th Marine Regiments. For updates on deliveries of protective covers to units, contact Jeff Vold or Phil Simoes.

U.S. Marine Corps Selects ENVELOP Covers

The U.S. Marine Corps has chosen Shield Technologies' ENVELOP Protective Covers as the sole-source environmental protection cover for all howitzers in Marine Corps inventory, as well as for other critical combat equipment.

The decision by senior Marine Corps officials represents a more permanent solution (on the average of three

to five years) for robust, reusable covers on its M198 and M777 lightweight 155mm howitzers. Also included are ENVELOP covers to outfit all Marine Corps HIMARS (High Mobility Rocket Artillery System) vehicle-borne resupply cranes.

ENVELOP covers will replace a wide variety of traditional canvas and vinyl covers that have proven to be highly

inadequate for the harsh environments in which these expensive assets are operated. All of the covers are customdesigned and fabricated to protect large equipment in their entirety, and also to safeguard unique and vital sub assemblies such as the M777's new digital fire control system components.

"These durable, patented covers are light-years ahead of what the

ENVELOP's Commercial Business Goes Offshore

Shield Technologies now proudly supplies critical infrastructure protection to companies that rely on commercial offshore equipment for their operations. One of the world's largest offshore drilling contractors now depends on ENVELOP Protective Covers for its continued profitability. ENVELOP's primary role in ensuring the readiness of the contractor's operations is protecting the company's expensive equipment that waits in inventory. Vital motors,

repair equipment and other gear are stored in inventory yards that are exposed to the harsh environment of coastal areas. ENVELOP covers protect these assets from extreme salt air, high temperatures and humidity. When technicians pull this equipment for use — which has been in storage anywhere from one week to two years — the need is normally urgent. The company's state-of-the-art drilling operations, on land and

at sea in more than 25 countries around the world, call for a ready response to equipment casualties. This contractor can rest assured that its assets have been well-protected by state-ofthe-art ENVELOP Protective Covers and are in readiness. This customer's first validation of the protective covers is exceeding its justifiably high expectations for critical asset protection. For more information, contact Warren Hoskinson.

Missing Parts or Damaged Cover?

It has been a long hot day. You are just finishing with your M3 Gun and Ammunition Handling System PMS and are getting ready to put your ENVELOP cover back on your CIWS mount. But

Your four-month-old cover is now useless and will allow moisture and salt to blow directly down and around the barrels. Your hard work has quickly been transformed into additional work.

We realize that even with the utmost of care and caution accidents can and do happen and equipment gets damaged, destroyed or lost. We can provide replacement covers at reasonable cost so that your four-month-old CIWS cover is not a total loss. Buckles, barrel covers and straps can all be replaced, frequently in the field with little or no lost time.

We have provided ships and units with replacement CIWS barrel covers, machine gun cinch straps, and various buckles to ships both stateside and those forward deployed. If

covers need to be repaired prior to the end of expected service life, Shield will either expedite items necessary for repairs to the location or arrange for repairs at its Eagan, Minnesota, facility. Typically, if repairs are the result of material or workmanship defects and the cover is less than a year old, repairs and/or replacement costs are covered by the oneyear warranty.

To obtain repair parts or assistance with a cover issue, contact your local representative, the Eagan operations office directly at 651.289.3067, or
e-mail your ENVELOP representative.

DID YOU KNOW?

ENVELOP Protective Covers are now sold in 17 nations worldwide. Primarily in use by foreign military, the prevalence of Shield products represents global leadership in environmental protection of vital assets for military and commercial consumers alike.

wait, the barrel cover is missing. Then you remember that gust of wind as the ship altered course an hour ago. The barrel cover is somewhere in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.

Money is tight; your chief is going to be furious when he learns that a new cover has to be replaced. Do not despair. Shield Technologies can help.

USS HOWARD Excels With Operational Cover

The USS HOWARD DDG 83 had just returned from the Arabian Gulf, where the harsh, humid, hot salt air environment normally wreaks havoc on exposed deck equipment and weapons systems during its sixmonth deployment. Yet, visitors to the ship from the Navy's Southwest Regional Maintenance Center were amazed to find equipment that looked like it had just been reworked and prepped for the beginning of deployment. Among the most well-maintained items of equipment were those protected by ENVELOP's new operational covers.

One of the HOWARD's fire controlmen reported that the operational covers remained on the CIWS weapon mounts throughout the ship's entire deployment, including while firing the weapon. The old threepiece covers have been replaced with a two-piece configuration. The new design incorporates an

integrated stainless steel plate to prevent the cover from fouling the ammunition feed system, and high-temperature-resistant Kevlar and fiberglass roping around the gun barrel area to resist heat damage during firing. The cover will fit any optimized gun barrel system in the inventory. All ENVELOP designs are the direct result of listening to customers' needs. The operational gun covers were initially requested by the Army and Raytheon for the Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) system used for perimeter defense. Operators wanted a combination of asset protection and combat readiness that ENVELOP's operational covers now deliver. This level of attentiveness to the customer is one reason that the Navy's Program Executive Office (PEO) recently announced that a complete set of ENVELOP covers will be included with delivery of all U.S. Navy ships under construction.

Machine Gun Covers for Shipboard Use
Jim Oaks, Atlantic Fleet Support, CWO (WEPS), USCG (Ret.)

Every day, while under way, I remember making the rounds of the ship's mounted machine guns, removing the vinyl covers, wiping off the night's condensation, cleaning off the rust and relubricating the guns and mounts. Then came the required daily prefire checks. Every day it was the same thing, just like in the movie, Groundhog Day.

ENVELOP® Protective Covers have proven to reduce the hours required for this daily maintenance from hours per day to an hour per week. Less moisture equates to less corrosion, resulting in fewer man hours battling corrosion and better use of a sailor's time.

Covers are available for the.50-caliber M2HB machine gun on the MK26 mount (both with and without splinter shields),

the MK93 mount with the 300-round ammo can, and the MK95 twin mount. Envelop also produces covers for the M240G on the MK97 single and MK99 twin mounts, the M60 on the MK82 and pintle mounts, and the MK19 40MM on the MK93 mount.

All of these covers have proven effective in field use onboard Navy ships of all sizes and Coast Guard cutters. The feedback from gunners mates (GMs) and small-boat coxswains has been positive relative to protection of the equipment and ease of use.

The newest ENVELOP cover in its line of machine gun covers is the M240G MK97 mount which was designed with input from GMs and coxswains to ensure that the cover provided the necessary protection without

obstructing the coxswain's view when installed on forward mounts, such as those found on the Coast Guard's 25-foot Defender boats.

A complete list of ENVELOP covers for all machine guns, along with those for all other weapons systems, is available at envelopcovers.com or by contacting your fleet support representative at 757. 647.0034 (Atlantic) or 619.459.7789 (Pacific).

As I look back on my years as a gunners mate "chasing rust" on my guns, I wish that the ENVELOP technology had been available then. I could have been more effective and productive all-around for my chief. ENVELOP where were you when I needed you?
